Club Team Championship

Val Halla GC Cumberland

May 21 (Sunday)

Gross-only team event. 36 team limit. Maximum two teams from a single club. Entry fee $180 per team. Entries must be mailed, postmarked no sooner than April 24, no later than May 5, or until field is full. Print entry form, or call 846-3800.

Father/Son Championship

Natanis GC

June 4 (Sunday)

Alternate shot tournament. Father-son combinations only. Each team plays one ball. Fathers drive on odd-numbered holes, sons drive on even-numbered holes. A father can play with as many as three sons. Pro-amateur division as well. MSGA membership required for at least one player per team. Entry fee $30, entry form required. Click here.

B & C Players Championship

Prouts Neck CC

June 7 (Wed)

The last handicap revision in May will determine a player's placement in Class B or C. B players will have index between 8.1 and 14.0. Above 14.0 will be C players. Field limited to first 126 players to apply. Fee is $35. Deadline is May 19 or until full. Click here for entry form.

Maine Amateur Championship

Purpoodock Club

July 11-13 (Tue-Thurs)

126 player field. 54-hole stroke play event. (Watch for the move to match play in 2001.) Players must be members in good standing of a 2000 MSGA member golf club. Must be Maine resident, or have been a member at an MSGA club for 10 years and currently reside in Maine for at least five months of the year.

Click here to see players exempt from qualifying: Players who made the cut in the 1999 Maine Amateur Championship; top five junior point earners in 1999; Maine Amateur champions from the last 10 years; the low three finishers and ties from the 1999 Mid-Amateur who have not otherwise qualified; club champion from the host club, Purpoodock.

All competitors, including exempt players, must submit an entry form and $75 fee. Entry deadline is June 2. Print entry form or call 846-3800.

New England Amateur

Waterville CC (Maine)

July 18-20 (Tue-Thurs)

Maine will be allotted about 20 spots in this 72-hole stroke play event. Two spots will go to exempt players Ron Brown and Mark Plummer.

Because the tournament is in Maine this year, it is expected that many Maine players will be interested in competing. For this reason, the MSGA has scheduled an 18-hole qualifier for Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Belgrade Lakes Golf Club. Please note: Because of the early qualifier, the deadline for entry will be Friday, May 12, 2000. Entry forms are available online (click here) or through the MSGA office (846-3800), and must be mailed back to the MSGA. Fee is $50 for the qualifier. Players who qualify will pay an additional $110.

Purpoodock - Aug. 11

The third year for the Wendy's Maine Open in its multi-site format. The field will include 156 players: 122 professionals and 34 amateurs. Entry fee is $275 for the pros and $135 for the amateurs. Amateurs need a handicap index of 5.0 or better to apply. The amateur field will be chosen from Maine applicants according to low indexes, and out of state amateurs by invitation. Falmouth Country Club is the site of the 2000 Wendy's Maine Open Pro-Am, a benefit for the MSGA Scholarship Fund. For a $1500 contribution, sponsors may enter a three-player team, to be matched up with a pro. Individual entries will be gratefully accepted at $500. Maine's delegation will be chosen by 2000 player points.

Blaine Davis Classic

Belgrade Lakes GC

August 24 (Thursday)

Players won't want to miss this opportunity to play the beautiful and challenging Belgrade Lakes Golf Course! Proceeds go to the MSGA Scholarship Fund. $50 per player, carts are EXTRA. Format similar to regular weekend tournaments, without class divisions. This year, players may sign up as four-person teams OR as singles, twosomes, or threesomes to be paired by the MSGA. Field limited to the first 144 players that apply. Entries accepted beginning May 8. Print entry form or call 846-3800.

Maine Mixed Championship

Riverside GC

August 27 (Sun)

Amateur teams of one male and one female. Scotch Ball Modified Pinehurst. Gross and net payoffs. At least one player per team must have MSGA membership. Entry fee is $70 per team, entry forms required. Entry forms available by clicking here. If you would like to play with another couple, please indicate that on your application form along with your tee time preference. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. Your starting time will be confirmed within a week of receipt of application.

 

Maine Senior Amateur Championship

Poland Spring GC - Aug. 29

Fairlawn CC - Aug. 30

This event for players age 55 and up is a two-day, 36-hole tournament. Players will be re-paired for the second round. Age divisions are 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and above. Overall gross winner is Maine Senior Champion, thus qualifying for New England Senior and Maine's Tri-State team. Entry fee is $60. Deadline is August 11. Click here for entry form.

Two-Man Championship

Two fine Cumberland County golf courses will host this year's event. Mixed format: 18 holes better ball, nine holes two-man scramble, and nine holes modified alternate shot. Field limited to first 60 teams, $140 per team. Deadline is August 18. Click here for entry form.

Maine's team will consist of the top ten Player of the Year point earners, plus four seniors, including the Maine Senior Champion.

Maine gets about 15 spots, to be determined by low handicap index of applicants. 36-hole stroke play format. Ages 55 and up. Fee is $175, includes cart. For applications, call MSGA, 846-3800.

Mid-Amateur

36-hole stroke play event for amateurs age 25 and up. Field is 96 players, by handicap. Exempt: former winners and low 15 scorers and ties from the 1999 Mid-Amateur. Entry fee is $70. Deadline is Sept. 8. Entry form available here

The annual business meeting of the MSGA begins with a shotgun start tournament at 12:30. The dinner meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the MSGA Executive Committee and to club representatives from all over the state. If you are an MSGA club representative, please plan to attend in 2000!
