Maine State Golf Association Scholarship Fund

Established 1950

The Maine State Golf Association (MSGA) Scholarship Fund is a charitable and educational trust, providing undergraduate scholarships for needy and deserving students.

If, in the opinion of the MSGA Scholarship Committee, a candidate is worthy, and providing the candidate can meet the prerequisites for appointment as a Scholarship Fund Scholar, the MSGA shall invite the applicant to fill in this application. The nominee shall be judged and compared to all other applicants. The final selection of applicants rests with the MSGA Scholarship Committee.

Requirements for nomination are as follows:

A candidate shall have shown an active interest in golf (i.e. participating in play, caddying, or working at a golf shop or course).

Candidates must establish their need for financial assistance to attend college.

Candidates must be graduates or prospective graduates of an accredited Maine secondary school.

Candidates must be outstanding in character, integrity, and leadership as provided by participation in extra-curricular, civic and/or community activities.

It should be understood that in 1999 scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1,000.00 for one academic year of undergraduate work, to a maximum of $4,000.00 for four consecutive years of undergraduate study.

It is the policy of the Maine State Golf Association to annually renew a scholarship until a baccalaureate degree has been earned providing scholars maintain an academic record that justifies continued scholarship assistance. Applicants for a scholarship should apply for admission directly to the college they wish to enter. The final decision to award a scholarship is dependent upon the applicant's ability to obtain college admission. A student who elects to take a year off from study must reapply for the scholarship.

When a candidate has completed the application and has obtained the required credentials, the candidate shall submit them to the High School Principal or Preparatory School Headmaster. It is required that the Principal complete the confidential appraisal of the applicant and forward the entire file to the Maine State Golf Association, 374 U. S. Route One, Yarmouth, Maine 04096.
